During xCHANGE 2023, we heard many fascinating accounts of how technology and creativity have combined to create innovative new products and ways of working.
We heard from Abhishek Sen (CEO and Co-Founder at NumberEight), Ken Lythgoe (Head of Corporate Development at DAACI), Timo Kunz (CEO at AudioStack), and Preben Kjaer Kristensen (Head of Intellectual Property at Ørsted Wind Power A/S), all of whom have used technology in creative ways in order to drive innovation within their respective businesses.
Technology for creativity
Artificial Intelligence is one such technology used by some of these organisations (namely, NumberEight, DAACI, and AudioStack) as a tool to foster and democratise creativity and productivity. Indeed, despite concerns about the dangers of AI, it was described as “one of the most profound, consequential technologies” and compared by Lewis Silkin’s very own Cliff Fluet with the invention of steam and electricity in terms of its potential impact. By using AI, businesses have the opportunity to widen access to the creative sector – the question was asked: how many Beethovens might there have been, if only they had access to a piano?
Creativity for technology
Elsewhere, businesses are using technology in creative ways in order to solve existing problems. One such company is Ørsted Wind Power who build offshore wind farms around the world. After becoming aware that noisy installation of their turbines could affect local sea mammals, they altered the fitting process to reduce the impact of the turbines on surrounding wildlife. This project demonstrated the progress which can be achieved at the intersection between creativity, technology, and science.
